POWER ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION (PAL):

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL):

PAL truly represents the next generation of liposuction, and at Menard Plastic Surgery, we are thrilled to provide power assisted liposuction for our Tuscaloosa patients. Led by American Board of Plastic Surgery Diplomate Dr. John Menard, Menard Plastic Surgery is one of the area’s premier cosmetic surgery facilities.

What is Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)?

Power Assisted Liposuction is an advanced liposuction technique that uses innovative technology to remove fat quickly and with less trauma than previous liposuction options, thanks to a specialized oscillating cannula. This cannula uses rapid vibrations to break up fat cells for precise and effective suctioning as well as target smaller areas of the body, providing detailed body sculpting results to shape troublesome areas.

Why should I consider Power Assisted Liposuction treatment?

If you have pockets of fatty tissue that have accumulated in certain problem areas such as love handles, bulging bra bumps, or panty lines, PAL treatment can help you achieve more streamlined body contour. Your clothing will fit better by eliminating those bumps and bulges from your shape. PAL can remove more fat in less time compared to manual liposuction, offers greater precision due to the vibratory micro-movements, provides quicker recovery time, and less bruising.

Who is a good candidate for Power Assisted Liposuction?

Good candidates for power assisted liposuction typically include women and men who have stubborn pockets of fat anywhere in the body with overlying good skin quality and elasticity. This treatment is not recommended for people who are still actively losing weight or who plan to lose more weight in the future, since future weight fluctuations could affect the outcome of your procedure. The ideal candidate for PAL is a healthy male or female adult who maintains a relatively stable weight.

How does Power Assisted Liposuction work?

Power assisted liposuction uses an oscillating cannula powered by a specialized electrical device. This cannula moves through fat with power, producing vibrations that allow for more effective fat removal. As the cannula breaks up fat cells at high speed, these cells become easier to suction from the body. Areas with firmer fibrous tissue that requires a gentler touch are easier to sculpt. The vibratory micro-movements protect surrounding tissue while targeting unwanted fat pockets.

What can I expect after Power Assisted Liposuction treatment?

Generally, recovering after PAL is a quick process. Within 2-3 days most patients are able to resume normal activities and can gradually build up to more strenuous activities over a few weeks. Bruising, soreness, and swelling begin to resolve within the first 10 days, although swelling can persist up to 16 weeks. You can usually notice a visible improvement in contour within a week after treatment. Within 3-4 months, after swelling goes down, the full results may be seen and appreciated.
